Box Office Mojo. I first read this 60 years ago and it is as fresh a read now as it was then. Disney did an excellent job of adaptation, but I enjoyed this original story much more. Disney kept the book's characters Horace and Jasper Baddun, who appeared in both versions as thieves hired by Cruella to steal Pongo and Missis' puppies. Through the co-operation of animals and the "Twilight barking", the dogs are found in Suffolk , England, and a rescue ensues. As with many classic works that Disney "recreated" -- this is a prime example of why I usually don't like the movies.

Three or four years ago, while I was living in Sunnyvale, I saw a remarkable example of how useful the Starlight Barking can be. A lot or a little? There are certain phrases that are repeated throughout the book, like Cruella de Vil's 'absolutely simple white mink cloak' that I really liked as a device; it was kind of like a character carrying a theme song whenever they show up in a movie. But I seem to be in the minority on that.
